Kirill Belyaev. Silver for 25km!

On the final day of open water swimming at the 2019 FINA World Aquatics Championships, Kirill Belyaev won a silver medal in the 25 km race.

The fate of the men's gold and silver medals was determined by the photo finish, which showed that Kirill lost 0.3 seconds to Frenchman Axel Raymond (4:51.06.2 vs. 4:51.06.5). The third was Italian Alessio Occiprinti (4:51.09.5). Evgeny Drattsev finished with the sixth result (4:51.19.6).

"Of course, it's a shame to lose a touch, but I'm glad that I was able to win a Medal of the World Championship," Said Kirill Belyaev. — We started to swim at high speeds from the very beginning, which we didn't have at this distance before. Throughout the race there were constant spurts and it was very hard. But at the end of the distance I gained such pace and speed that I had confidence that I could win a medal. I saw that the Frenchman at the finish began to go to the left, began to control him. I had to sit a little longer, but trying to get ahead, I was on the last rows of the fortress. Apparently, luck on that day was on his side. As for the spoiled weather and torrential rain, I did not pay attention to it. However, in the end high waves rose. I think that at their expense I have moved forward, as I am sitting on a wave."

In the women's race were the debutantes of the competition, who for the first time swam the distance of 25 km – Sofia Kolesnikova, who finished with the 11th result, and Anastasia Basalduk, who withdrew from the race, but which is yet this year to take part in the junior European Championship sat out at 10 km.
